We have been trading since 1988 originally as “Automatic Conversions” and have during this time built an excellent reputation, both in the UK and overseas, as the leading supplier of remanufactured gearboxes, transfer cases and differentials for the Land Rover marque. We also supply our own design of heavy duty axle parts including diff centres, CV’s, halfshafts, ring and pinions and a variety of other specialist products for the Rover 4 x 4 vehicle.
The family owned company, offers good, established and proven products at competitive prices. We aim to have most items in stock, some of which can be dispatched immediately in the UK and overseas. To give some idea of our capacity we now have 38 staff, operate from a 18,000 sq ft facility and last year we supplied over 4,000 standard gearboxes and many specialised transmissions worldwide.

David Ashcroft B.Eng(Hons) MSc(SPRU)
After completing a three-year apprenticeship with Rolls Royce David continued his studies at Sussex University, obtaining an honours degree in Engineering and a Masters degree in Technology Management. David returned for a further year at Rolls Royce, Derby, before joining his father in 1993. Using his business and technical expertise he has developed the business to its current form.
He is the driving force behind the Company’s progress and is the main point of contact for all our customers. He is able to offer informative technical assistance and help regarding all our products.
Ian Ashcroft C Eng M.I.MechE, B.Sc Hons (Mech Eng)
After completing an apprenticeship and degree in Mechanical Engineering, Ian spent 20 years in the manufacturing industry. He worked in various capacities, including maintenance and design, where he gained a wealth of experience. Automatic Conversions was born as a quest for a reliable transmission after successfully destroying endless Series II & III gearboxes with a V8 engine. Other developments followed in an attempt to further improve reliability of the drive train.
Sadly Ian passed away in 2021 but a great deal of his ideas, knowledge and expertise are still used in the company today.
